The Damaraland Diamond Lodge, situated in the culturally and ecologically rich area of Twyfelfontein, is committed to integrating sustainable practices and community upliftment into its operations.
The lodge will establish an on-site community based nursery dedicated to growing a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
To manage food waste sustainably, the lodge will operate a small community based pig and chicken farm. Leftover food from the lodge’s kitchen and dining areas will be repurposed as feed for the pigs and chickens, significantly reducing waste.
Empowering the Local Community
The Damaraland Diamond Lodge is committed to empowering the local community by providing comprehensive training programs. These programs will cover various aspects of hospitality, agriculture, and sustainable practices.
The lodge pledges that 60% of its staff will be recruited from the Kunene Region, Namibia's poorest area. By prioritizing local employment, the lodge will provide much-needed job opportunities and contribute to the region's economic development.
The Damaraland Diamond Lodge will be entirely powered by solar energy, harnessing the abundant sunlight in the region. Solar panels will be installed to provide electricity for all lodge operations, significantly reducing the carbon footprint and reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
In its commitment to preserving the natural environment, the lodge will ensure that no trees are cut down during the construction phase. The design and construction processes will prioritize minimal environmental impact, incorporating eco-friendly materials and techniques.
The Damaraland Diamond Lodge will create a platform for local artisans and craftspeople to showcase and sell their work in the souvenir shop. This initiative will help preserve traditional crafts and provide a source of income for local artists.
